Ip Man 2

No, not I.P. Man, saviour of the international copyright industry, but Ip Man, Wing Chun master and eventual mentor to Bruce Lee. This fictionalised biopic sequel has Ip setting up a new school in Hong Kong, leading to conflict first with rival masters and eventually Hong Kong’s brutal British overlords. He fights them all – always with great humility, of course (star Donnie Yen resembles an oriental Cliff Richard) but also with complex, dazzling choreography thanks to Jackie Chan cohort Sammo Hung, and in rich, lavishly designed locations. The film is lengthy, and English speakers will scoff at the Brit baddies, but this is superior martial artistry.
