Get Him To The Greek

Incapable of being contained in a single movie, Russell Brand’s seductive improvised lechery bursts from his cameo in Forgetting Sarah Marshall to stride all over this spin-off sequel in leather slacks. Brand again plays Aldous Snow, the no-longer-sober Brit rocker making a comeback with help from Jonah Hill’s puppy-eyed music exec Aaron.

Their mismatched journey – idealistic homemaker versus addled libertine – provides the film’s narrative spine, as Aaron chaperones Snow from London to LA’s Greek Theatre via a hazy gallery of nightclubs and trashed hotel suites. The best bits tend to be small and quiet, with Brand and Hill ricocheting off one another inventively during their characters’ frequent clashes. Less convincing are the louder, dumber moments delivering the takeaway message of loneliness and relationships and things, but there’s more than enough chemistry between the leads to keep things fizzing.
