Two things date this frantic French crime blast: Vincent Cassel’s shameful Chuckle Brothers fuzz of hair, and a slavish post-Tarantino urge for quick cuts, leering cameras and easy violence. Cassel is Dobermann, an untouchable gangster leading a kennel of incestuous, cross-dressing, God-fearing outcasts in a battle of wits but mostly guns against an equally crazy copper (think Oldman in Leon, only balder and madder). It’s an unsubtle mix of big characters and nonchalant killings barely held together by Cassel’s unflagging charisma and all of Monica Bellucci as his deaf moll. Furious, fun, but for just a few minutes.
